The Rodriguez Brothers
About
The Rodríguez Brothers — pianist and composer Rob Rodríguez and trumpeter Mike Rodríguez, sons of Cuban drummer Roberto Rodríguez — have played individually or together with some of the most celebrated ensembles, including Roy Haynes, Charlie Haden, Chick Corea, Eddie Palmieri, Carla Bley, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Maria Schneider. Both are composers as well as gifted players of their instruments, the piano and the horns (trumpet and flugelhorn). Their work is propelled by Afro-Cuban tumbao, deeply rooted in the island’s descargas and punctuated by rhythmic montuno breaks, and it swings with abandon, reflecting their dedication to the wider world of Black American Music. Reunited – Live at Dizzy’s Club celebrates the 20th anniversary of their debut recording, with bassist Ricky Rodríguez, drummer Adam Cruz and percussionist Anthony Almonte.
