(Kansas City, MO – November, 2019) – After a trip to the Latin Grammys and a rousing reception from Mexican audiences at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Making Movies returns home to prepare for the final concert of the year at the Truman Kansas City: a “PUNKY DRAGGY PARTY” celebrating the year’s end with a concert and a tribute to The Clash’s Combat Rock featuring punk band Wick & The Tricks, drag performers Jaharia Vondu, Molton Decadence, Dick Von Dyke, KC Sunshine, and more special guests to be announced. Storyteller, actor and playwright David Wayne Reed will host the genre-and-gender-bending party, which encourages KC audiences to come in costume to celebrate the ball drop. This will mark the band’s second concert and tribute at the Truman, last year’s sold-out show saw the immigrant rockers pay tribute to the Talking Head’s classic Remain In Light with Calvin Arsenia.

“New Year’s Eve will be the last time we perform the ameri’kana show in Kansas City before we go back to the studio,” says Diego Chi, bassist and co-founder of the band, referring to the group’s latest release ameri’kana. Speaking of why they chose Combat Rock for this year’s tribute he adds, “Immigrant rock and punk rock share the same energy and attitude toward the establishment and the bending and breaking of rules. After having the Talking Head’s ‘light’ lead the way, we wanted to assert our identity and our rights with the same spirit as Joe Strummer in 1982– with guitars in hand.”

The “PUNKY DRAGGY PARTY” ends a landmark year for Making Movies, one that began with a Rolling Stone premiere of their rollicking collab with Rubén Blades, No Te Calles, the first single from Paraíso Road Gang, which was nominated for the 2019 Latin Grammy Album of the Year. The song was also featured on NPR’s Best Songs of 2019.  Making Movies’ following album ameri’kana, featured Rubén Blades and members of Los Lobos, Flor de Toloache, and Ozomatli. The band wrapped a tour with Panamanian hip-hop duo Los Rakas on the west coast before joining Rubén Blades in Mexico City at the Auditorio Nacional. Making Movies will go into the studio for an upcoming album to be released in the first half of 2020.
